OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Sooners are a single victory away from winning the school’s 2nd NCAA title in women’s softball. OU took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 game national championship series with a dramatic 5-3 win over Tennessee in 12 innings late Monday night at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The Sooners fell behind 3-0 when Tennessee’s Madison Shipman blasted a 3-run homer off Oklahoma’s ace pitcher Keilani Ricketts in the top of the 11th, but OU rallied back.

The Sooners scored a trio of runs in their half of the 11th to tie it…and then after holding the Lady Vols scoreless in the 12th, OU slugger Lauren Chamberlain hit a towering 2-run “walk off” HR over the left field foul pole to put the Sooners in position to win the national title.

The second game in the championship series will be tonight at 7pm at Hall of Fame Stadium and on national TV. If OU wins, the season is over and the title belongs to the Big Red. If Tennessee wins, it will force a 3rd and deciding game in the series that will be played Wednesday night at 7, also at Hall of Fame Stadium.

How excited was Sooners head coach Patty Gasso after Monday night’s memorable victory? Listen for yourself…pretty strong comments from the veteran leader of OU’s powerhouse program.
