Oklahoma State’s baseball team scored eight runs in the first inning on their way to a historic rout of Oklahoma in Bedlam baseball on Tuesday night at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.
OSU beat the Sooners 24-2, the most runs OSU has ever scored and the largest win margin in a Bedlam win by the Cowboys since scoring records were first kept in 1935.
OSU starting pitcher Conor Costello got the Cowboys started with a two-run double in the first, and Tim Arakawa ended it with a two-run home run.
After not scoring in the second inning, OSU put up multiple runs in each of the next four innings, scoring four in the 3rd inning, three in the 4th, five in the 5th and four in the 6th to blast the Sooners.
Both Costello and Arakawa drove in four runs each, while Gage Green, Jon Littell, and Donnie Walton all had three RBI’s.
Oklahoma State has won five of the last six Bedlam meetings, and scored a combined 48 runs in the last three games.
OSU’s previous high for runs against Oklahoma was 23, done in 1952 and 1987.
The previous high for victory margin was 19 in 1986.
The Cowboys improved to 23-9 on the season, while the Sooners dropped to 22-13.
Oklahoma visits Texas this weekend for a three game series Friday through Sunday, while Oklahoma State is at Kansas for a three-game set Friday through Sunday.
