Updated Dec. 7– Paige Yore’s social media post about a shopping experience at a Wal-Mart went viral but turns out it may not be true.
The company says it has reviewed surveillance video from the store and says the woman’s story does not match what is on the store’s tape.
In the video posted by Yore, she said she watched a woman belittle and yell at a cashier.
“You suck at customer service! I don’t know why you ever, I don’t know how you ever got hired here,” Paige recalled the woman saying.
In an effort to casually get the woman out of the store, Paige helped her load her groceries.
But then the woman’s card got declined.
“Then she really lays into this kid, like it’s his fault, he can’t run the computer, and ‘there’s money in my account, I just transferred it in, it’s your dumb*** that can’t,’ and goes off on this kid,” Yore said.
Yore claims she hugged the cashier as he began to cry, and that the cashier said his mother committed suicide that morning.
“This is not true,” a Wal-Mart media relations representative told KRDO on Monday.
Wal-Mart told the Colorado Springs station that the company has spoken with the cashier and that his mother is alive.
The company also told KRDO that it reviewed surveillance video from the store. It did not find evidence of any yelling, or that Yore hugged the cashier.
There was some tension between the cashier and the customer in front of Yore, the Wal-Mart spokesperson said, but it was due to a language barrier.
ORIGINAL POST: COLORADO — A Colorado woman is spreading a message she hopes will resonate with everyone who watches her video.
Paige Yore made a trip to Walmart on Friday, Dec. 4.
When she went to check out, the male behind the cash register was having a really hard time.
“He can’t ring anything up, he can’t remember the codes, he’s taking deep breaths,” Yore recalled.
She realized something probably happened to the cashier to make him act that way.
Unfortunately, the woman in front of her wasn’t so sympathetic.
Paige asked the woman to step aside because the cashier was obviously having a bad day.
That was when the boy broke down.
“He comes around the bagging area and he just hugs me,” Yore said. “I’m weirded out and I hug him back and he’s sobbing.”
She continued to console him, and he stopped and said…
“Ma’am, my mom just committed suicide this morning… and I have to work because I have to pay our rent, and I have to pay our bills. And I don’t even have a mom anymore,” he said. “And this lady is just yelling at me.”
The woman, in front of everyone, was completely humiliated for the way she had treated the boy as he continued to cry.
Paige gave him all the money she had in her wallet as the tears continued to stream down his face.
“That really just shows me that no matter what… don’t jump down their throat because they are fighting a battle that none of us know about,” Paige said. “We just have to be thankful to be alive, and treat people like you want to be treated. Don’t lay into somebody like that because you never know what’s going on in their life.”
