OKLAHOMA CITY — A wildfire waged overnight near the Town of Geary.

The fire is now contained, but several residents were evacuated.

The fire started Thursday afternoon near a canyon in Canadian County.

Because of rough terrain in the area, firefighters had a difficult time containing the fire.

Crews say about 160 acres have burned so far.

More than 20 homes were evacuated.

Geary City Hall has been opened as a shelter for displaced residents.

Fire crews from Okarche, Calumet, Cedar Lake and Geary worked together to get a handle on the fire.

US Highway 281 is closed north of I-40 as fire crews are using that area to contain the flames and prevent hot spots from flaring up.
