OKLAHOMA CITY – A three-year member of the Warr Acres Police Department is out on bond after being arrested this week following an alleged fight with a woman.
Authorities say 26-year-old Cory Drain is charged with domestic assault and battery in the presence of a child.
Drain was arrested by Oklahoma City police, but he is now out of jail.
Drain has been with the Warr Acres Police Department for three years, and his chief of police says he never expected one of his men to be involved in a violent act.
“We are held to a higher standard because we are sworn to uphold the law and to not violate the law,” Chief Roger Patty says.
But according to Oklahoma City police, 26-year-old Drain may have broken that promise.
“An ex-relative came over to the house to pick up a child. The suspect allowed this person inside the house and an argument ensued where the suspect allegedly used physical force against this person,” Capt. Paco Balderrama, with Oklahoma City Police Department, said.
Court documents show Drain allegedly “grabbed the victim around the waist and threw her into a wall.”
The victim is the mother of Drain’s 2-year-old son.
“Of course, I was shocked and disappointed in the event that occurred,” Chief Patty says.
Court documents show that during a scuffle for their son, Drain “attempted to hold onto the lower half of the child’s body.”
Chief Patty says he would not tolerate this type of behavior.
Drain is an officer by day, and a ring fighter by night.
“He’s done that in, I believe, was firefighter versus police charity event about three months ago,” Chief Patty said about a Tulsa Fight we found on YouTube.
Even with his reputation in the ring, his chief was shocked.
“He’s never given me an indication that anything like this would happen, no,” Chief Patty says.
Court documents show the victim was injured, left with “bruising on her knee, an abrasion on her forearm and redness on the abdomen.”
We went to his home to get answers, but no one came to the door.
“These cases are treated just like any other,” Capt. Balderrama says.
“We don’t have this type of thing happen in this department, and so it is a shock to have one of our members arrested,” Patty says.
Drain is out on bond and currently on paid administrative leave.
The chief says all officers undergo rigorous psychological evaluations before joining the department.
The District Attorney tells KFOR after an investigation, no charges were filed in this case.
