Wagoner inmates take guard’s keys, lock him in cell to escape

WAGONER, Okla. – Two Wagoner County Jail escapees are back in custody Tuesday after they overpowered a jailer to escape.

Officials said 35-year-old Larry Cotton and 38-year-old Mickey Staggs got away from the jail at about 9 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said the pair grabbed the guard, took his keys and locked him in cell.

The jailer suffered minor injuries in the struggle but is expected to make a full recovery.

According to jail officials, Cotton and Staggs have long criminal histories.

Cotton was captured Tuesday morning and Staggs was caught just a few hours later.
