EDMOND, Okla. — The University of Central Oklahoma Foundation has created a scholarship in the name of a student who was killed in the crash at the Oklahoma State Homecoming parade.
The Nikita Prabhakar Nakal Scholarship was initiated by the UCO College of Business.
Nakal had earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mumbai University, and was attending UCO in the hopes of becoming a financial analyst.
“We could think of no better way to honor Nikita than by creating a scholarship that will forever honor her name and her dream. We hope that this scholarship will provide other students, for decades to come, the chance to pursue their dream of an MBA here at Central,” said Ethan Waples, Ph.D., director of Graduate Programs for the UCO College of Business.
The scholarship will be available to students pursuing an MBA at UCO and will be open for application for the fall 2016 semester. The University says preference will be given to international students.
“We hope the Central family and the people of Oklahoma can begin to remember Nikita more for her persistent smile and vibrancy than for the tragedy of her death. This scholarship is our chance to continue the positivity that emanated from Nikita,” added Waples.
The second of two memorial events for Nakal is set for 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30 in Nigh University Center Constitution Hall as part of “Desi Night,” a previously planned UCO Indian Student Association event designed for attendees to experience the rich culture of India.
