OKLAHOMA CITY – This season, the Oklahoma City Thunder has been plagued with injuries.
It proved no one is immune, including 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant.
Recently, the superstar underwent a second surgery on his foot, which was injured earlier this season.
The second surgery was to place a new screw in the reigning MVP’s foot after the first screw was causing soreness and irritation for him.
On Friday morning, Thunder general manager Sam Presti called a news conference to discuss Durant’s immediate future.
Presti said that Durant did not practice on Thursday and will be removed from basketball activities on the floor.
He said Durant is not making the progress that he was expected to make after this second surgery.
Presti says he is still experiencing soreness in his foot, but stresses the Thunder has some of the best doctors on the case.
Presti said when he is able to play, Durant will take the court.
When asked if he thought Durant would be ready for the NBA Playoffs, Presti said his health is the most important thing right now.
He added to that, saying Durant is “out indefinitely.”
“Unless he’s able to be back on the floor without soreness, he won’t be back on the floor,” Presti said.
This season, Durant has missed more games than his previous seven seasons in the NBA combined.
On Friday, the Oklahoma City Thunder will take on the Atlanta Hawks at 7 p.m.
In addition to Durant being out, Serge Ibaka and Enes Kanter will not take the court.
