BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – A little boy, who police say was brutally killed by his brothers, may have saved more lives.
On Wednesday night, Broken Arrow police were called to a home after a disturbing 911 call was made by a young boy.
When officers arrived, they stumbled upon a horrific scene.
They found a 13-year-old girl suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite being critically injured, the girl told police that her eldest brothers had attacked her family.
Authorities discovered the bodies of 52-year-old David Bever, 44-year-old April Bever, a 5-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy.
All of the victims were stabbed to death.
“I was told knives, there was a hatchet, there was several different types of weapons that were actually used in the homicides,” said Cpl. Leon Calhoun, with the Broken Arrow Police Department.
Officials also found a 2-year-old girl, who was unharmed, inside the home.
Officers found fresh footprints, and eventually arrested 16-year-old Michael Bever and 18-year-old Robert Bever for the crimes.
Law enforcement sources told KTUL that one of the boys has provided a full confession.
“I don’t know if there was any remorse or anything going on at this point,” said Cpl. Leon Calhoun, with the Broken Arrow Police Department.
Broken Arrow police say they can’t reveal what the brothers’ plan may have been after the murders because of the ongoing investigation.
They say there was no evidence the teens planned to leave the 2-year-old unharmed.
Instead, they say one of her brothers may have saved her life.
The call was originally reported as an open line call, but authorities say that was not the case.
“[He] actually stated, ‘Please help,’ and [said] their brother was attacking the family. Another male, which we believe is one of the two suspects, said, ‘Hello’ and then hung up,” said Calhoun.
Police say had he not made that 911 call, the alleged suspects may have not been stopped.
“He did save the life of his 13-year-old sister and his 2-year-old sister and possibly many others after that,” said Calhoun.
Investigators are looking into a shipment that was supposed to be delivered to the home on Thursday.
Sources say the shipment contained boxes of ammunition.
At this point, it is not known if the shipment was meant for the alleged suspects or someone else in the home.
Police say 16-year-old Michael Bever will be tried as an adult. The court date is scheduled for August 3, 2015.
