ODESSA, Texas – A Texas teen has been charged in the brutal death of his parents.

Police were called to the Odessa home around 5 a.m. March 2.

When they arrived, officers found James Gregory McDonald, 52, and Jana McDonald, 52 dead inside their home.

According to court documents, the couple’s son, 17-year-old James Gabriel McDonald, admitted to shooting his parents to death while they slept.

McDonald’s sister was also at home at the time the shootings took place.

She told authorities that right before the shooting, McDonald came into her room and said that he was going to shoot their parents.

She thought he was kidding, but moments later she heard two gunshots, KWES reports.

McDonald was later arrested and charged with capital murder.

He will undergo a mental health evaluation, the Odessa American Online reports.
