ARAPAHO, Okla.– Testimony began Wednesday in the murder trial of Tucker McGee. He’s accused of first-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old JaRay Wilson.
Wilson vanished in 2012. Her body was found more than a year later in a shallow grave north of Weatherford. A shocking tip from a teenager led to the grisly discovery. That teen told police he watched McGee kill Wilson after the three smoked K2 together.
Witnesses testified Wilson and McGee knew each other from school.
A friend of Wilson said she’d been getting in trouble with drugs and started hanging out with McGee, who’s now facing a jury for allegedly shooting and killing Wilson.
McGee, now 20, wore a suit jacket and glasses Wednesday as the state’s witnesses took the stand.
One of Wilson’s friends testified she was texting him the day she disappeared in October 2012.
She told him she was with Tucker McGee and was “sketched out,” and that she couldn’t go home.
An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper told the court that McGee admitted in an interview that he and Wilson would smoke synthetic marijuana together.
Prosecutors say the murder happened along a rural county road, and that McGee was high on K2.
He allegedly shot Wilson twice in the head.
The other teen with them, Cody Godfrey, said he watched it all happen.
14 long months went by before Godfrey came forward and led investigators to Wilson’s body.
Godfrey has previously testified that McGee showed him a gun the day Wilson was killed, joking about shooting Wilson. Godfrey is expected to testify this week.
A third teen was involved, Caleb McLemore. He’s already plead guilty for his role in helping bury Wilson’s body in the woods north of Weatherford.
He’s serving a 25 year sentence.
Testimony continues Thursday in McGee’s trial. The trial is expected to last a couple of weeks.
