ENID, Okla. – An Oklahoma teen was killed in a hit and run accident over the weekend.
She was by a man who then drove off, leaving her in the middle of the road.
It happened in Enid.
Police said, about 10 minutes earlier. they were called to another hit and run a few blocks away, in the area of North Grand and Randolph Avenue.
In that case the victim had minor injuries.
While talking with that victim, they were called to the 1500 block of Elm, where a teenage girl had been hit by an SUV.
Police said the driver drove off, but his car broke down.
That SUV led police right to him.
“Whe was walking westbound. She was with one other person, and she was furthest out to the roadway but still by the curbside,” said Lt. Tim Jacobi with Enid Police.
The victim, Kaylynn Lovely, was hit from behind.
The accident quickly prompted 911 calls from several people in the area.
Caller: I just heard a loud sound when a car drove by fast, and some people said it’s a hit and run of a girl.
Dispatcher: Hold on. A what?
Caller: A hit and run of a girl.
Dispatcher: Of a girl? Is she injured?
Caller: I don’t know. I’m walking over there.
Another caller: Oh my god, we need an ambulance.
One of those on the line with dispatchers was a young man who was with Lovely when she was hit.
Caller: We were running on the side of the road, and this car was flying down the road and hit her.
Police said the driver took off.
They said he reportedly stopped a block away to close the hood on his SUV.
He then drove off.
It was another 911 call that would lead them to the suspect’s SUV.
Caller: It looks like there’s a van that might be on fire.
Caller: I saw a man running away from it.
The car wasn’t on fire.
Police said it had just broken down.
Police were able to trace it to Alynn Collins, a man who lived just blocks away from where the SUV was found.
Police said he tried to act like he had been in bed for hours.
“When they made contact with him, he was in bed,” Jacobi said. “He was nude, and he was intoxicated.”
Police said they found evidence on the SUV and in Collins’ home leading them to arrest him.
As for the victim, those who know her are heartbroken by what’s happened and said they’re still in disbelief she’s gone.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help the family with costs for Lovely’s funeral.
