Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan shared with our viewers a study conducted at the University of Oklahoma that upgraded the El Reno tornado’s width from 2.6 to 4.3 miles wide; making it a colossal “super tornado.”
It is a rare weather event that has happened in Oklahoma before.
Morgan says the whole meso cyclone came to the ground. He says this particular tornado would have the destructive force of 12 times the tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in 2011.
The last time a tornado of this magnitude touched down in Oklahoma was on May 3rd 1999. Morgan suggested that the community and legislators keep finding solutions to manage our school children’s safety.
The fact is, these “super tornadoes” will most likely occur again.
