NORMAN, Okla. – Construction is in full swing to make room for new premium seating and suites at the Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
But, that means some season ticket holders have to relocate.
“It’s nice that visitors will have good seats when they come but, if I was a season ticket holder and I paid a lot of money for my seats, I’d really like to have my seats when the season starts,” said Wes Timm, an OU student.
It’s a game of musical chairs so to speak.
Visitor seats will need to move to make room for the new suites.
The visitor seats will take over several rows typically used for season ticket holders.
“I was kind of shocked just because they’ve had the season tickets. It’s kind of not fair for them to have to relocate,” said Max Simmons, an OU student.
Sections 19 through 22, 226 to 228 and 233 through 236 will be affected.
That’s roughly three percent of ticket holders.
Sources said ticket holders have until March 31 to renew, and then they’ll be given an online option to pick new seats.
OU officials said they’re working one-on-one to come up with other options.
“I would actually see it as more of a convenience, because it would allow the opportunity to avoid the construction and probably go to a much more convenient location,” said Payton Hill, an OU student.
It’s all part of a $370 million renovation to the stadium paid for by private and public monies.
Renovations to the OU football stadium are expected to be completed for next season’s home opener on Sept.10.
