It has been very dry plus all the plant life is dormant because it is winter.
When the Oklahoma wind picks up it elevates the fire danger.
All of these ingredients come together making wildfires a very high risk.
Typically our fire season is from January to March.
It is highly likely most of the state will be under high fire danger for the next few months.
We need precipitation and Spring to green up the plant life.
Also, the actual drought continues in southwestern Oklahoma.
We are dry in the metro but not yet in a drought.
