OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma County District Judge Glenn Jones unsealed an indictment handed down by the Multicounty Grand Jury last week detailing three counts of perjury against Oklahoma City restaurant-owner Wade Starr.
Starr, 41, part owner of Deep Fork Grill and Cafe Nova, is accused of lying to the Multicounty Grand Jury and signing an affidavit that he knew was false.
Starr pleaded not-guilty to all three counts.
Meanwhile, District Attorney, David Prater is breathing a sigh of relief.
The same Multicounty Grand Jury that handed down the indictment against Starr also issued an interim report which cleared Prater of the wrong-doing allegations that first surfaced two years ago.
Prater was accused of using a 2006 victory party at Cafe Nova as an illegal cover to funnel campaign contributions into his coffers.
According to the Multicounty Grand Jury, every allegation was false.
“It’s very clear what the Grand Jury felt about what that party was, and certainly what it wasn’t. It was everything I said it was all along.” Prater said.
Prater believes he was targeted because of decisions he has made to prosecute powerful attorneys, judges and lawmakers in Oklahoma County.
“I know if they’re willing to fabricate documents they’re certainly be willing to lie. If I’m going to go after people with zero education, zero resources, from low socioeconomic groups, from whatever race, I’m going to go after the most powerful as well. Here’s what Oklahoma County needs to know, you will be treated fairly by the this office. And if you are prosecuted by this office you need to know it has nothing to do with who you are. It has everything to do with what you did.” Prater said.
According to NewsChannel 4 sources, the Grand Jury is not finished addressing this topic.
Several high profile defense attorneys were called to testify before the Grand Jury.
Additional indictments may be handed down in the coming months.
