OKLAHOMA CITY – A new report from Reuters has detailed former Chesapeake CEO Aubrey McClendon’s final business dealings and days in Oklahoma City.
The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday, March 1, McClendon was charged with conspiring to rig bids for the purchase of oil and natural gas leases in northwest Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City Police announced on Wednesday, March 2, McClendon was killed in a car wreck.
Among a few of the details reporters from Reuters learned:
- McClendon was supposed to have dinner with Vincente Fox, the former president of Mexico. McClendon did not show up to the dinner, party due to his indictment.
- Fox and his dinner party sent autographed wine bottles to McClendon with the intention to deliver them to him in person.
- McClendon no longer controlled business dealings in Chesapeake. He was in the process of transferring the interest in the company to Clay Bennett, owner of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
- McClendon’s largest investor, Energy & Minerals Group of Houston, had no current leadership role with the firm.
