OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City police officers were able to save Christmas for one Oklahoma City mother and her three-year-old son.
Oklahoma City police officers respond to burglaries all the time.
But one recent call really got to them and inspired them to help provide Christmas for a single mother and her three-year-old son.
Two dozen police officers surprised Debra Enos during her Monday night shift at Denny’s.
“It’s completely unbelievable. I didn’t expect it at all,” she said.
Oklahoma City Police Master Sergeant Casey Owens was called to Debra’s home Sunday night after someone had broken in and stolen all of her son’s Christmas presents and two televisions.
“The only thing that came through my mind was that this is the first year that my son was going to get to have a Christmas,” she said.
Owens immediately put out a message to fellow officers and dispatchers, saying he was going to try to replace those presents and invited them to donate as well.
“It just was that, you know, she’s working extremely hard. She’s a young, single mother. She just needed a break, especially during Christmas time,” said MSgt. Owens.
Owens says the response was overwhelming.
He and fellow officers raised about a thousand dollars and a group of dispatchers just about matched it.
They were able to give Debra $350, several gift cards, a new TV and burglar bars for her home.
“It’s the most amazing feeling to see people care like that, especially this time of season when they have their own families,” said Debra.
Debra thought she had to work Monday night, but she was given the night off so she could use that money to go and replace all of her son’s Christmas gifts.
