Police: Man arrested after allegedly beating man unconscious in the street with a hammer

OKLAHOMA CITY – Police arrested an Oklahoma City man after he allegedly attacked another man in the middle of a busy street with a hammer.

Officers were called to the area of S.W. 46th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. after a witness said a man had just been attacked by another man with a hammer.

According to the arrest affidavit, the witness told police the victim was followed by a man, telling him to hand over his money.

When the victim did not give the man any money, the witness says the man pulled out a hammer and hit the victim in the head repeatedly.

Police say the victim lost consciousness in the middle of the street and the alleged suspect fled the scene.

The witness stopped traffic and pulled the victim to safety, while calling for help.

While officers were on the scene, police spotted 38-year-old Larry Russell, who matched the description of the alleged suspect.

The witness confirmed to officers that Russell was the one who attacked the victim.

Russell is now facing a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
