OKLAHOMA CITY – A well-known country music artist was arrested Monday after allegedly pushing his girlfriend down the stairs.
On Monday, officers were called to an apartment in the 1100 block of N. Robinson Ave. on a domestic violence call.
When police arrived, they found Stoney LaRue’s girlfriend with scrapes on her knees and scratches on her back.
LaRue is now facing a charge of domestic violence.
“He’s just a good ol’ boy that we would assume wouldn’t be involved in something like this. So that’s why when we had seen this, it was a shock,” Owen Pickard, with Jake FM, said.
The news has fans and those in the music industry asking questions.
“Yeah, domestic violence is on the minds of a lot of people, so when you hear this, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth for sure. But then you also have to ask the question, are we hearing both sides of the story?” Pickard asked.
Police documents show LaRue had been out drinking the night before until the early morning hours on Monday.
According to officers, LaRue’s girlfriend said she was getting ready for work and blow drying her hair when she woke him up.
“Apparently, her getting ready created enough of a commotion to where the male got upset, began throwing items of hers downstairs. As she bent down to retrieve these items, he actually pushed her, knocking her down the stairs,” Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow, with the Oklahoma City Police Department, said.
LaRue was arrested along with a woman who was also at the apartment.
“When our officers were trying to take photographs of the victim’s injuries, this other female was interfering. She ended up being arrested for obstruction,” Sgt. Wardlow said.
We reached out to LaRue at his home and by phone, but did not get an answer.
We did not get ahold of his girlfriend either, but she did say this on Twitter.

LaRue later posted an apology on his Facebook page.
LaRue is out of jail on bond. Court records show his girlfriend filed a protective order Monday.
Police say the couple has been together for three years and living together for two.
