MIDWEST CITY, Okla. – Friends and family of 17-year-old Kit Johnson said they can’t believe what happened Friday morning.
“He’s like one of my own,” lifelong friend Brenice Madison said. “He was just going to school.”
Kit is a young man who now fights for his life.
Police said, just after 7 a.m. Friday, a car made an improper lane change on N.E. 10th St.
Johnson and his motorcycle slammed into the car.
It exploded into flames and Johnson was caught in the fire.
“I pulled over real fast and I grabbed a coat out of the back,” witness Stan Garrett said.
He stopped immediately to help.
“I tried to roll him but that didn’t do anything but make the flames go higher, so I just used the coat and smothered it out,” he said. “And then I just got down on my knees above his head and I talked to him. I don’t know if he heard me but I talked to him just so he didn’t think he was all by himself.”
Stan said he worried all day about the teenager’s recovery.
“I will never forget it; I know that and my son won’t ever forget it either,” Garrett said. “No, it’s something that I hope I never have to experience again. I feel bad for him. I feel real bad for him.”
