OKLAHOMA CITY – The 90-day deadline for Take Shelter Oklahoma to collect enough signatures to put their questions on a state ballot is Monday.

The group members said they want Oklahomans to weigh in on using $500 million state bond to fund storm shelter construction in Oklahoma schools.

The organization needs 160,000 signatures to make that happen.

Take Shelter Oklahoma has had quite a journey; the organization has been collecting signatures since September.

The debt would come from revenue collected from the reinstated franchise tax.

If passed, school districts would be able to build storm shelters without raising any new or existing taxes and without cutting any current program spending.

The plan gives 100 percent control to the schools boards since they would clear all decisions regarding the storm shelters.
