STILLWATER, Okla. – It was an emotional but beautiful evening Tuesday night at Gallagher-Iba, as people gathered to honor lost lives, saved lives and to thank the people supporting the Cowboy family.
“It’s been 10 days since we started hearing the words ‘Stillwater Strong,'” said Gina Noble, mayor of Stillwater.
A phrase that carries many different meanings.
“To me, it just means that we’re family and, when all the hype is over and everybody else moves on, we we are still together,” said Matt Mills, campus minister for Stillwater Church of Christ.
“We’ve been through before and will go through it again, and we all stick together,” said Terry Wilkey, a supporter. “We are Cowboys.”
Cowboys gathered to show, together, they are strong.
“Home is where the heart is, and no heart is bigger, larger and in abundance of love than the Cowboy heart,” said Todd Lamb, Lt. Governor of the state of Oklahoma.
Hearts hurt with the passing of friends.
“We knew Bonnie and Marvin, and we wanted to be here,” Sue Kennedy said.
Sue and her husband, Patt Kennedy, worked with Bonnie Stone for 20 years.
“Thought a lot of her as a colleague, and Marvin helped our daughter when she was in cultural engineering here,” Patt said.
Now, they’re left with memories of the wonderful people they were.
“Forever, you’ll find us loyal and true to our family and our alma mater, OSU,” Lamb said. “God bless the Cowboys.”
