STILLWATER, Okla. – Thousands of fans in Stillwater took time to honor our friend and late co-worker Bob Barry, Jr. on Saturday.
KFOR Sports Director Bob Barry, Jr. died from injuries he sustained in a scooter accident in June.
While thousands of Oklahoma State fans saw their Cowboys dominate Central Arkansas, they paid a special tribute to our friend in Boone Pickens Stadium.
“Oklahoma State athletics lost a dear friend with the death of KFOR Sports Director Bob Barry, Jr. BBJ, as he was known to many, was, of course, the son of longtime OSU play-by-play voice Bob Barry. He spent virtually his entire adult life on the air in Oklahoma City and was a local institution. Like his father, Junior was a hard-working and objective television journalist who secretly, and sometimes not so secretly, cheered for all of the Oklahoma teams to do well. Today, on the first home game since Junior’s passing, we ask that you show the Barry family the appreciation and gratitude of the Cowboy family for their efforts over the decades,” the announcer said.
Immediately, the home crowd erupted into applause and cheers.
This was the second time Bobby was honored in as many weeks by a local team.
