CLAREMORE, Okla. – One person is dead following an accident with a school bus in Rogers County.
On Wednesday morning, emergency crews were called to accident involving a Sequoyah Public School bus and a private vehicle.
According to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, one person in the vehicle died at the scene of the accident.
Troopers told KJRH the victim in the car is a junior at Sequoyah High School.
Officials say the girl’s SUV went off the road, over-corrected and lost control, hitting the school bus.
“It is difficult,” said Dwight Durant, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. “It’s difficult for us, the first responders, the bus driver, the students. I’m sure most of them knew each other, so it’s a difficult morning.”
KJRH reports that children were on board the bus at the time of the accident.
An employee with the district said some of the children were taken to the school with minor injuries.
Initial reports indicate that the girl’s mother is a teacher at the high school.
