OKLAHOMA CITY – New details this morning on a story we’ve been following all month long, this morning the Oklahoma Department of Corrections says it has no plans to review its lethal injection protocol.
The first execution of the year happened back on Jan. 9.
Inmate Michael Lee Wilson claimed he felt his whole body burning within 20 seconds of receiving the injection.
Then last Thursday, Kenneth Hogan complained of a metallic taste in his mouth, also just seconds after the injection.
Now some Civil Liberties groups are calling for a change.
Oklahoma uses a mixture of three drugs; one to make the inmate lose consciousness, the second stops breathing and the third stops the heart.
The DOC said Oklahoma’s execution protocol is appropriate, and right now, they have no plans to change it.
