OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. – The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is offering Oklahomans a safe place to conduct transactions.
Recently, a Georgia couple was found dead after contacting a car seller on Craigslist.
They drove to the South Georgia town of McRae from Marietta, an Atlanta suburb, last week to meet someone who responded to the ad. That was the last time anyone heard from them.
Their bodies were recovered Monday.
Police say the victims were shot in the head.
On Tuesday, 28-year-old Ronnie “Jay” Adrian Towns was charged with their murder.
To help prevent similar cases like this one in the metro, the Oklahoma County Sheriff Office is welcoming the public to close online deals at their offices and substations.
“We want to make sure citizens of Oklahoma County have a safe place to conduct transactions that are initiated through online sites like Craigslist,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. “Those who seek to prey on our citizens will not want to transact business with law enforcement officers present.”
The sheriff says that offering this safe haven will give folks some peace of mind.
