OKLAHOMA – A long road of recovery proved successful for an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who nearly lost his life in an accident back in January.
“I feel great, considering. I still have a little ways to go,” said OHP trooper Jason Richardson.
It’s been 10 months since Richardson was left fighting for his life.
Now, he’s finally back on his feet.
“I believe the Lord has a plan for each of us, and he’s just given me a little bit more time to be with my family and to serve as a state trooper,” Richardson said.
Dash cam video captured Richardson walking along an icy Interstate 40 when all of a sudden you see an SUV slide across the highway, slamming right into him.
A nurse who witnessed the crash pulled over, rushing to the trooper side.
“The crash was so loud, and all the debris came flying at me,” the nurse told NewsChannel 4 earlier this year.
“I consider her my guardian angel. She arrived, and I remember her words. She kept comforting me. Of course, I was like ‘Are we safe? We need to be safe.’ I remember talking to her about safety,” Richardson said.
Richardson was left with injuries to his neck and legs.
He also suffered fractures to his hip joint and spent time in a wheelchair.
“He was determined he was going to walk, first off. That was the first step, was getting to walk, and then it was getting back to work,” said Jana Richardson, Richardson’s wife.
There’s one thing the trooper said helped him pushed toward that goal.
“I have a strong faith in Christ, and I’m very humbled and very appreciative of the chance I have to continue my life,” Richardson said.
Richardson said he wants to thank all of the people who provided him with constant support during the long recovery process.
