STILLWATER, Okla. – With each day, we are learning more about the victims killed in Saturday’s crash in Stillwater.
Husband and wife Dr. Marvin and Bonnie Stone were two of the people killed in the tragic accident.
One friend and neighbor said the pair stood out in the community and will forever be missed.
On Tuesday, a rolled up newspaper rests on the front steps of the couple’s home.
“I saw him every morning just about,” said Max Andrews. “He had his paper out on his pickup truck. You know, he’d say good morning.”
Andrews lives across the street from the couple’s home.
Their lives were taken Saturday, after a driver came plowing through the crowd at Oklahoma State’s homecoming parade.
“I’ll miss them,” Andrews said. “I’m sure everyone else will, too.”
The Stones were well-known in the community, with close ties to OSU.
Marvin was a retired professor and engineer.
Bonnie also worked for the university. To many, though, she was known as a cowgirl who enjoyed caring for horses.
As Andrews looks at the empty house across the road, he says he’s trying not to be sad.
However, the pain of their absence is still very fresh, hitting once again when Andrews noticed his neighbor’s truck parked outside after being gone since the parade.
“That was difficult,” he said. “I mean, they’re gone.”
Andrews is now holding on to the memories of his friendly neighbors.
He said, apart from the Stones’ many talents, they both had green thumbs, too.
“It was fun, because I have a garden in my backyard, and I grow okra and squash, and I would trade them okra and squash for their tomatoes,” Andrews said. “They were great people.”
Andrews is a visiting assistant professor at OSU with the School of Media and Strategic Communications.
He said Marvin helped him through graduate school, encouraging him when times got tough.
