OKLAHOMA CITY – Authorities have announced big changes in the murder case of a Blanchard wife and mother.
Jaymie Adams and her unborn child died from 29 stab wounds in late 2011.
This week prosecutors amended the murder charges against her husband Justin Adams to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
At the same time, prosecutors have arrested another man, Joseph Cyr, for the death.
Justin Adams appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing but because of the new charges that hearing got delayed.
“What happened was they filed the charge against him and worked like crazy to make a case against Justin Adams,” Adams’ attorney Irven Box said.
“They just wont admit they were wrong,” Justin’s mother, Tina Clark, said.
While Justin and most of his family did their best to avoid our cameras after court, his mother said she’s relieved Adams is no longer accused of killing his wife and unborn child but criticizes the amended manslaughter charge as bogus.
“I think the manslaughter charge is for them to save face because the case has gone backwards from day one,” Clark said.
“It’s a big step but it’s not where we want to be,” Box said. “We want to be where the case is dismissed against him.”
Prosecutors claim Jaymie and Justin repeatedly used Craigslist to solicit sex for money.
One post read, “I am letting any willing man come and have his way with my wife with a little compensation for us to help with our holiday funding.”
Prosecutors said Cyr had sex with Jaymie just before her death and DNA taken from Jaymie’s body matched Cyr.
“I think he’s a Craigslist killer,” Box said. “I think this guy’s crazy. It’s scary he’s been free all this time.”
While Cyr is accused of the killing prosecutors concluded, Justin Adams aiding, abetting and promoting his wife’s prostitution activities resulted in her death.
Justin’s mother said the alleged prostitution had been Jaymie’s idea from the beginning.
“Jaymie used Craigslist from time to time to support herself and her children long before my son came along,” Clark said.
Officers in Tulsa County arrested Cyr Tuesday night.
He moved to the Tulsa area just after Jaymie’s death and according to court records had been preparing to move yet again as the case against him got stronger.
He is now being held without bond in Oklahoma County.
