DEL CITY, Okla. – A Mid-Del Public Schools substitute teacher was fired after being arrested for soliciting sex from a minor and exhibition of obscene materials to minor child.

Superintendent Dr. Rick Cobb says the sub, Darris Turner, 33, is no longer employed with the district.

“First thing I wanted to know was had my kids ever heard of him, which they hadn`t so I`m relieved in that aspect,” said parent Nikki Maurer. “The thought of a teacher doing that is devastating.”

“At the time of Turner’s hiring in February in 2018, all state background check requirements were completed. The safety and security of our students is always our first priority,” said Dr. Cobb.

Del City Police Confirm this is an active investigation involving at least three alleged victims. One is an adult woman from a previous job, the other two are minors within Mid-Del schools.

“On October 11th, 2018, Del City Detectives were notified concerning a substitute teacher at the Del City High School who was alleged to have solicited sex from a female student. Contact was then made with the 17-year-old victim who identified the teacher as ‘Mr. T’. He was later positively identified as Darris Turner, a black male, 33 years of age. Another 16-year-old female juvenile has also come forward with additional claims. It was learned that the suspect used the same approach on both juveniles. Mr. Turner would learn the ID of his victims and then contact them via social media.  Mr. Turner is a substitute teacher in the Mid-Del School district and has worked at various elementary, middle, and high schools for several years,” said Del City Police officials.

Turner contacted victims through Instagram under the name “mr.sideburns29”.

Now police believe because of his time teaching at the schools, there may be other victims. Any students or parents with information are encouraged to contact the Del City Police Department.

Dr. Cobb says the district is cooperating with the local authorities during the investigation.
