GRAPHIC: Men charged in murder of Carina Saunders

OKLAHOMA CITY — Formal charges have finally been filed in the Carina Saunders murder case.

These latest developments come nine months after the 19-year-old girl’s dismembered body was discovered inside a duffel bag behind a Bethany grocery store.

Jimmy Massey & Luis Ruiz

Jimmy Massey, 34 and Luis Ruiz, 37, are both officially charged with first-degree murder.

The probable cause affidavit showcases gruesome details not publicly known until now.

Massey was already in the county jail on drug charges and, according to court documents, he told another inmate “he was involved in the homicide and described the fact that they cut the girl’s arms and legs off.”

Officials said he hand wrote a letter to another inmate “describing what parts of the body were dismembered and perhaps more importantly, how the body was wrapped prior to disposal.”

Police spoke with another girl who was reportedly with Saunders at the time of her murder.

That crime took place at a house that has since been demolished at 3500 S. Harvey.

That girl told investigators she “witnessed Ruiz physically beat Carina Saunders and then tie her up. That he drug her to an upstairs room and tied her to a small table… that he then cut off her left foot and then tried to cut off her right foot when the saw broke.”

That girl reportedly jumped out a window to escape.

Another woman, who said she was in a hotel room with Ruiz, said she saw video of the homicide on his cell phone.

She “said she watched for a few seconds until Saunders began to scream.”

And that “she recognized Luis Ruiz as the person in the video cutting off the foot of Saunders.”

One glaring omission from the court documents filed Monday, a motive.

The only reference comes from a witness identified as a former girlfriend of Ruiz.

She told authorities that Ruiz said Saunders “was going to be ‘dealt with.'”
