Man blames sexual abuse on alcohol

OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City man is accused of the unthinkable.

Allen Dale Smith, 54, is charged with child sexual abuse after an 8-year-old girl came forward with disturbing allegations.

The alleged victim told Canadian County authorities she was sexually abused.

Smith was later arrested and is facing charges of lewd acts in addition to drug charges.

This isn’t the first time a child has accused Smith of sexual abuse but this is the first time he has been arrested for it.

In this case, court documents state the child told Smith to stop the abuse but he would not and her family contacted authorities.

“We moved in a quick manner before Mr. Smith even knew that we were looking at this,” Canadian County Detective Adam Flowers said.

The victim’s quick reporting of the incident helped put Smith behind bars until he appears in court.

In the past, that was not the case.

Smith has been accused of sexually abusing children before but none of the victims came forward at the time of the alleged assaults.

“In the past there have been allegations with Mr. Smith,” Flowers said. “None of them were proven in the court of law.”

Investigators said Smith did not deny he sexually abused the girl and blamed his actions on alcohol.

“He blames it on a drinking problem that he has,” Flowers said.

According to authorities, Smith does more than consume alcohol.

When they went into his home, they found marijuana and the tools used to smoke the drug.

“Open, plain view; right there in the game room,” Flowers said.

Smith is currently behind bars in the Canadian County jail.

As for the other victims, state officials are looking into those allegations as well.
