SHAWNEE, Okla. – Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of an Oklahoma teen.
Shawnee police say 25-year-old Aaron Bradford was arrested for the death of 17-year-old Karter Alderman.
Officials say Alderman was shot and killed during a home invasion in Shawnee.
The home invasion happened early Saturday morning in the 2200 block of Aydelotte, near Kickapoo and Midland.
Police say the suspect went to the front door with a gun, demanding to get in to rob them.
The person behind the door tried to close it, and that’s when police say the suspect shot through the door, hitting Karter in the head.
He died at an Oklahoma City hospital.
“[He] never really got in trouble and unfortunately I think it was just the wrong place at the wrong time type of deal,” Karter’s uncle, Michael Hayes, said.
That’s what police are saying too.
Karter didn’t live at the home.
We’re told he was hanging out with friends.
Shawnteel Lonnie went to Shawnee High School with Carter and said he got along with everyone.
“He didn’t deserve it,” Lonnie says, “and his family, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.”
“He was just a happy kid, a good kid and everybody loved him. [He] had a great smile, it was a great atmosphere when he was around,” Hayes said.
Police have been interviewing witnesses and chasing down leads since the shooting happened.
By Monday afternoon, Aaron Bradford was arrested.
Karter’s family is anxious to find answers as they try to cope with his death.
“I miss him. I know we all miss him,” Hayes said.
Bradford has outstanding warrants in Comanche County, so he was taken there Monday.
Friends of Karter are planning to release balloons in his honor this Friday at Boy Scout Park in Shawnee at 5 p.m.
