PAULS VALLEY, Okla.(KFOR) — Formal charges have been filed against a candidate running for Garvin County sheriff after he allegedly violated a protective order.
Daniel Deal, a candidate running for Garvin County sheriff, ended up in trouble with the law.
“On April 9th, Ms. Deal had come to the police department to file a report,” Chief Clint Wood, with the Lindsay Police Department, told KFOR.
According to a probable cause affidavit, she was wanted to pursue fraud charges against her soon-to-be ex-husband, Daniel Deal.
Deal’s wife, who filed for divorce on April 6, told police that Deal “had written a check out of her personal account in the amount of $500.”
She said “the signature appeared to be forged” and showed them “a copy of the check and one previous one she had written.”
“While she was filing the report with the officer, she received a phone call. It was a FaceTime phone call. She noticed that it was Mr. Deal that was calling,” Wood said.
She told police that was a violation of her “emergency order of protection” against him.
Wood said she then handed the phone to the officer.
“Once he answered the phone, he saw that it was Mr. Deal on the phone. He knew him from previous contacts here in town,” Wood said.
Deal allegedly told the officer he was calling to ask about their two children.
One misdemeanor count of violating a protective order was filed in Garvin County on Tuesday and a warrant was issued.
“Once we received it, officers went to the wrecker service where he works and they arrested him at that time,” Wood said.
KFOR stopped by Deal’s home on Thursday. He wasn’t there but a family member was. She called him for us. He wouldn’t speak with us but told her to tell us he did nothing wrong.
Deal is due in court in Garvin County for a hearing on July 1.
