CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – A government contractor was arrested on child predator charges, a local sheriff’s office announced Wednesday.

Last week, investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Pennsylvania man after they responded to a Craigslist advertisement he had posted looking for someone to have sex with before leaving town on a plane the next morning.

Kevin Smith, 38, a mechanical engineer from Summerhill, PA told investigators after he was taken into custody last Thursday that he didn’t believe he had broken any laws.

The basis for his belief was because the undercover investigator had lied to him in a text message denying to be law enforcement, and claimed to be a 14-year-old girl from Mustang.

“Sheriff’s investigators moved to arrest Smith after he sent a photograph of his male anatomy to the girl, so she would have a visual of what he would be bringing to the party,” the sheriff’s office stated in a press release.

After the man allegedly sent the picture and other texts about performing oral and traditional sex acts with the person he believed to be a teen girl, investigators went to Smith’s hotel and arrested him.

“According to Smith’s own admissions, this wasn’t his first time to set up sexual encounters using the internet.  He told investigators he had been caught doing the same thing by his wife in the past,” said Chris West, Canadian County Undersheriff.

Authorities say Smith confessed to investigators that he intended to have sex with the 14-year-old girl.

“We arrested Smith in the hotel foyer scanning the room for the girl. I pray he hasn’t left a trail of devastation behind his corporate travels.” West said.

Smith was booked into the Canadian County Jail on the charge of lewd acts with a child.

He is now out of jail after posting a $50,000 bond.
