KFOR reporter passes out during live coverage of Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon (she’s OK)

During Sunday’s coverage of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, one of our NewsChannel 4 reporters found herself in a little trouble.

It was just before 7 a.m. when Kevin and Linda tossed to Chellie Mills, who was live at “Gorilla Hill” at NW 40th and Shartel. As Chellie began her live report her speech slurred and she suddenly stopped talking. The only other sign something was wrong was the look on the young man’s face she was about to interview.

Chellie said, “I felt faint but I didn’t know what to do because they were already in the process of coming to my shot. I thought I would just make it quick and then sit down.”

Unfortunately, Chellie passed out in the middle of the shot, falling backward onto the grass covered median she was standing on.

A couple who lived nearby came running to her aid. They said they were doctors and were watching when things went downhill.

The doctors, along with some race volunteers helped Chellie up and got her a chair, some juice, water, peanut butter crackers and a banana.

Chellie is currently about 5 months pregnant. Those who saw this and rushed to her help her believe her blood sugar simply dropped causing her fainting spell.

In the video, you hear Chellie hit the ground. You can also hear a woman ask her if she’s OK to which Chellie replies, “yeah.”

The camera immediately went to the ground and the shot changed back to Linda Cavanaugh and Kevin Ogle, who at that time were unaware of what happened.  Chellie said, “I remember the lady asking me if I was OK. I also remember wondering why I was sitting on the ground. I did bump my head on the ground, but nothing else seemed to hurt. Later that day I called my doctor’s office and talked to the on-call doctor to see if there was anything I would need to have checked out. I have felt my baby move several times since so I feel like she’s probably OK. The doctor just told my husband to keep a close eye on me for certain signs something else might be wrong.”

Several people have since asked Chellie if they can see the video. She says since there doesn’t seem to be any serious injury to her or her baby she doesn’t mind it being shared.

Chellie said, “Now that I’ve seen it several times I actually think parts of it are pretty funny. I don’t mind if people laugh but most of all I want people to know I’m OK.”

Chellie says she and her husband have had numerous texts and messages from those who saw what happened and were concerned. They are grateful for those who reached out to say they were concerned or that they were praying for her after her fall.

Chellie continued working once she felt better and did several more live reports from the water stop. The video below was her first one after she was back on her feet.
