Update: Inmate accused of murder back in custody after breaking out of Oklahoma jail

UPDATE: An escaped inmate, who is accused of murder, is back in custody.

Paul Newberry escaped from the Muskogee County Jail on Sunday evening but was located near Austin, Texas on Tuesday.

On Monday, a semi-truck was stolen from a motel in Muskogee.

Investigators told KJRH they learned Newberry could operate a semi, so they monitored the truck’s movement.

 

MUSKOGEE COUNTY, Okla. – Deputies in Oklahoma are searching for a man who escaped the Muskogee County Jail on Sunday night.

According to KJRH, Paul Newberry and Raymond Noriega were able to escape the jail after breaking a window around 10:20 p.m.

Shortly after midnight, deputies found Noriega and took him into custody.

However, Newberry is still on the run.

Officials say Newberry is accused of murdering Charley Kirk in Cherokee County.

Newberry stands 6’4″ tall, weighs 200 pounds and has a goatee.
