Update 12/17/15: Robert Spencer is accused of defrauding at least three customers.
One of them, a single mom, didn’t have the extra cash to finish the renovations on her own.
The “In Your Corner” team rallied the troops.
Two Buddies Handyman and Remodeling is donating the labor.
Cliff and Diane Stockton from Northwest Building Supply are throwing in a bunch of the materials.
“It’s really a neat thing for us to help someone,” he said.
Karla gets a brand new sink, cabinet doors, interior doors, and granite counter top.
We weren’t down there.
Munger Paint and Wallcovering pitched in paint.
Remodeler, Twila Stutzman, did the rest.
Twila heard about the single mom’s plight and spent an entire week painting Karla’s cabinets, trim and walls.
“It wasn’t about seeing how fast this job can get done, but making sure everything gets done right,” Twila said.
Karla loves the colors and her new friend.
We’re working to get more materials donated to finish the renovations.
We still haven’t heard back from spencer.
OKLA. CITY – Karla Wells’ home is turned upside down.
Contractor, Robert Spencer, was supposed to be in and out.
“It’s been three months,” Karla said. “The agreement was he’d be done in about 10 days.”
More customers are unhappy with the contractor.
Connie Johnson paid Spencer $3,800.
She says she was forced to hire someone else to finish her salon remodel.
“He wouldn’t show,” she said. “He wouldn’t return my phone calls.”
Connie sued the contractor in court and won, but it hasn’t mattered because he won’t pay her.
We know Spencer is charged with writing a bogus check in Oklahoma County.
Friday, we tracked him down as he was leaving court.
He told us he was on top of things.
“I got my jobs done,” he said.
Kimberly Stutson says that’s just not the case at her place.
There are problems in the dining room and master bath and cracks in the kitchen counter top.
She says Spencer installed the sink the wrong way.
“I put a couple slabs of ribs in the sink to unthaw and the whole sink just fell in,” she said.
Kimberly says one of Spencer’s subcontractors even filed a lien against her property, because Spencer failed to pay him.
Just like Connie, Kimberly sued the contractor and won, but hasn’t seen a dime.
Customer, Karla Wells, just wants to get back into her home.
At least three times now Spencer’s been a no show in court.
He stands behind his work and assures us Karla’s job is a priority and he’s doing everything in his power to mend things with customers.
We’ll keep you posted on things.
