“I regret that I did not respond appropriately,” Joe Mixon’s fight over parking ticket gets him benched for game

NORMAN, Okla. – Joe Mixon’s fight over a parking ticket gets him benched for Thursday’s game.

The University of Oklahoma sent out a tweet Tuesday night stating Mixon was suspended.

Now, more details are being released about what led to the suspension for the running back who has found himself in the spotlight again.

Like many college campuses, trying to find a place to park can sometimes be difficult and so can parking tickets.

“That’s a very huge issue,” one student said. “It’s a $25 fee. I’d just pay it and get it over with just like a normal person.”

However, Wednesday morning the chatter around campus wasn’t parking issues, but a particular student athlete’s issue with the parking ticket he got Tuesday in the North Oval of the OU campus.

Joe Mixon was so frustrated with the citation that he tore up the ticket in front of the parking attendant and threw it on the ground.

“OU sets very high standards and they must be met by all of our student-athletes,” OU head football coach Bob Stoops said.

“I regret that I did not respond appropriately to parking attendants and understand and accept the consequences,” Mixon said.

As a result, Mixon was suspended for Thursday’s game at Iowa State, but it’s not his first suspension.

He was suspended the for the entire season back in 2014 after an incident in which he punched a woman so hard it broke several bones in her face.

Her civil lawsuit against Mixon is still pending.
