COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – An alleged thief had no idea what he was about to face when he allegedly stole tools from a garage.
Candy Flitton was working in the garage with her husband on a car when she noticed a man walking up and down their street.
“My husband was just sitting there working on his little car and finishing up, and he was asking him questions about it, silly questions that didn’t really make sense,” Flitton said.
The grandmother of 11 continued to watch the man as he walked down the street.
She felt something was wrong and followed him in her mini van.
At the end of the street, Flitton saw him take off.
“He was running out of the garage with a bucket of tools,” she said.
“I just rolled down my window, and I just said, ‘You put those back right now.’ And he looked at me and said, ‘What?’ And I said, ‘Put them back. Put them back right now. I’m calling 911,” she said.
“I wasn’t afraid of him,” Flitton told KUCW. “I was mad. I guess I just got into my mother mode and said, ‘Put that back now.”
Police arrested 32-year-old Ian Shaw for burglary and drug possession.
According to officers, Shaw has been stealing and pawning items since May.
