OKLAHOMA – Tuesday’s shooting victim at Will Rogers World Airport was a well-known, beloved man.
Michael Winchester, also known as Mike, lived in Washington, Oklahoma.
It is where he raised four daughters and two sons.
“What I’ve seen of Mike, he was a family man, great guy, loved his family, loved his kids, grandkids, was always there for them and with them at ball games,” said James Harryman, the acting undersheriff of the McClain County Sheriff’s Office and family friend.
Mike and his family are known for their success in sports.
Mike played punter for the University of Oklahoma’s football team back in the 1980s.
He helped win a national championship in 1985.
His talents were passed down to his children.
A daughter played basketball at OU, and another was on the rowing team.
His son, James Winchester, was also a former Sooner player and is now a professional athlete who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I know his children from working in Washington Schools and being around them, and they’ve always been great and wonderful people,” Harryman said.
As they grieve, their community is rallying behind them.
“With a town like Washington, they’ll all be there for the family to help them get through this,” Harryman said.
