When Public School 22 in Staten Island found out one of their teachers, Adriana Lopez, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, they decided to do something special for her.

The school chorus always performs a special song at the end of the year.

This year, the song was dedicated to Mrs. Lopez.

The PS22 Chorus performed Martina McBrides’s Grammy-nominated cancer survivor anthem, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”

“When you feel lost and scared to death, like you can’t take one more step, just take my hand, together we can do it — I’m gonna love you through it,” the 5th-graders sang.

The heartfelt performance had Mrs. Lopez wiping away tears.

“I want to thank you for this special moment,” she said. “It’s not easy, but I will get through it because I have wonderful friends at this school.”
