Enid man charged with raping 14-year-old girl

ENID,Okla. – A 30-year-old Enid man is now behind bars accused of rape after he was investigated for a different crime.

Detectives say they were originally investigating 30-year-old Zachary Thorp for a different crime when they found a 14-year-old girl at his home and learned about the alleged rape.

At this point, officers are not saying why they were originally investigating Thorp.

However, what they found out has his neighbors glad he is off the streets.

“I seen him, he seemed kind of inebriated, maybe drunk or under the influence of something for sure,” said Nathan Dixon.

The father of two says he never noticed Thorp with a girl, but was always suspicious when he saw him.

“Like with my two kids, they’re out here playing all the time on their bikes and it’s scary that it’s that close to home,” Dickson said.

According to police records, Thorp says he met the 14-year-old girl two months ago and allegedly had sex with her multiple times.

Thorp also told officers the girl lied to him about her age.

“That guy thinks he was just affecting one girl, but that affects an entire family,” Dickson said.

Police say the teenager admitted to having sex with Thorp, but says she never lied about her age.

Dickson says the case serves as a sad reminder to parents to keep a watchful eye on their children.

“I’m glad that they got him before I knew about it because that would make me really protective,” he added.

Police charged Thorp with second-degree rape.

His bond is set at $25,000.

The victim is back with her family.
