SHREVEPORT, La.  –An ArkLaTex child born without a brain and defied all odds, passed away peacefully in his sleep recently at the age of 12, according to KSLA.

KSLA reports Trevor Judge Waltrip was born with just a brain stem and a rare condition called hydranencephaly, in which the brain’s cerebral hemispheres are absent and replaced by sacs filled with cerebro-spinal fluid.

Trevor’s brain stem allowed him to breathe, have a heartbeat and respond to some stimulus, but he was blind and couldn’t communicate verbally.

Doctors weren’t even sure he would live past 12 weeks.

However, Trevor lived for 12 years, with the help of a feeding tube and therapists for his muscles and joints.

There is no cure or treatment for hydranencephaly.
