OKLAHOMA CITY – Flames shot through the roof of a northeast Oklahoma City home Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the home located off N.E. 129th St. and Midwest Blvd.
Skye Statum told News Channel 4 her mother Jeri Nibs, 76, and other family members were inside the home when the fire started.
The family told firefighters the lights started to flicker and they heard a pop.
A few minutes later the home was engulfed in flames.
“I just thank God that the fire happened during the day and they got out safe,” Statum said.
The home is located in a rural area so there were not any fire hydrants.
Fire crews pumped in water but they could not save the home.
Statum said her stepdad just recently passed away and her mom could not afford to pay the insurance for the home.
The family is now receiving help from the American Red Cross.
