SEMINOLE, Okla.—We’re learning more about the emergency landing of a medical helicopter where four people were seriously injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary report Wednesday on the crash.
On Jan. 2, a Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopter made an emergency landing following a loss of engine power near the town of Cromwell in Seminole County.
According to initial statements, the helicopter’s engine stopped producing power shortly after takeoff around 1 p.m.
The pilot was forced to perform an autorotation and made a hard landing in an open field.
The chopper had four people on board at the time of the emergency landing; a pilot, a nurse and two medics.
All four people on board were seriously injured and the helicopter suffered substantial damage.
The medical helicopter was en route from Seminole Regional Airport to a hospital in Okemah to pick up a patient.
Officials with the NTSB say they are still investigating what caused the engine to fail during flight.
