OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Police are investigating a homicide after a man’s body was found in a ravine in northwest Oklahoma City on Wednesday morning.
“I had to look twice because I saw a pool of red everywhere,” Jade Smith told KFOR.
Smith is describing what she saw while leaving the Raindance Apartments, near N.W. 122nd and Pennsylvania Ave., on Wednesday morning.
“I saw the cops and medical examiner walking down towards him as I was leaving,” she said.
Officials with the Oklahoma City Police Department said a man’s body was found in that ravine around 8 a.m.
“Never seen anything like this, so it’s the first time. I thought it was pretty safe here because we have a gated community and security,” Micah Shaw, who lives at the complex, said.
Another resident, Jayna Franklin, was also rattled to hear the news. She told KFOR she heard gunshots in the area around 5 a.m.
“It was probably a full round, a full clip,” Franklin said. “It makes me feel unsafe. Everybody needs to get it together. They’re shooting around our house, killing people around our house where we have kids playing.”
Police say the man’s injuries are consistent with homicide and say they’re investigating two crime scenes.
“There’s the scene where they located the body and there’s a second scene near that apartment complex where they believe the incident may have actually occurred,” Sgt. Megan Morgan, with the Oklahoma City Police Department, said.
People who live at the complex said they are thinking of the victim’s friends and family while they wait for answers.
“I just really hurt for that boy’s family and I hope, you know, that they have some peace in their hearts,” Smith said.
So far, police have not identified the victim or made any arrests.
