“Salem” explores the infamous witch trials, and delivers a bold new vision of 17th century Salem, and it’s witches. This new original series airs on WGN America. While the series is set in New England the show is shot in Louisiana. Lucas Ross traveled to the closed set meeting with cast and crew. This is an exclusive tour of this exciting new show. “Salem” premieres April 20 at 9 p.m.

He went on a witch hunt with stars Janet Montgomery and Shane West.

Lucas got lost in a Salem forest well really a sound-stage. We discovered this footage of him talking to costume designer Joseph Porro. Joseph has been creating over 1,000 original costumes for the upcoming series. Lucas picks his brain about influences and gets some tips on how to dress for the correct time period. 4.13.14 Hey Lucas here and I recently visited Salem! Well, actually it was Shreveport Louisiana but that’s where WGN America’s upcoming show is produced. I got to sit down with director David Von Ackmen and pick his brain about the bewitching saga. Watch this interview below.
LR: How did you end up directing this show?
DVA: I thought the initial story is relevant to today. It’s a witch story about a period of time you’ve probably heard of but probably don’t know a lot about. And if you do know about it, it’s facts that are fairly dry- this is a way of fleshing out those facts and fictionalizing the moments in between that no one could really know what happened and it’s fun.
LR: Watching the first episode, I can see parallels with our culture today with early America what are you hoping the audience will take home from this show?
DVA: I hope the stories we are telling are as relevant to the people living in suburbia or urban areas today as they’ve ever been yet the setting is alien. The human interaction is relatively unchanged.
LR: How would you describe the genre of this kind of show?
DVA: We’re setting it up to have different audiences attach themselves to different parts of the show. There’s a clear love story. There’s shock horror. There’s also creepy tension that’s built up. If you’re a fan of any of those elements, you’ll find them fairly present here.
LR: I don’t know if you’re too far into casting, but do you think you can find a part for me?
DVA: Well, I could see you as the village idiot.
LR: Let’s do it!
