OKLAHOMA CITY — Monday’s testimony in the trial of Daniel Holtzclaw focused largely on an accuser’s story, and an encounter between Holtzclaw and a convicted sex offender.
That encounter took place at an alleged victim’s home, weeks after her reported assault.
Attorneys claim Holtzclaw entered the home uninvited, where he found the convicted felon sleeping. The felon and the alleged victim were dating at the time.
There were reportedly children living in the home, as well, not to mention the home was near an elementary school. Despite these violations by the sex offender, Holtzclaw allegedly never reported, nor arrested the man.
State attorneys believed Holtzclaw wanted to keep the felon a secret to try to keep his victim’s story from getting out.
Defense attorneys maintained that arresting or reporting a non-registered sex offender is at the discretion of the officer, and that Holtzclaw did, in fact, run the man through their system, checking his criminal record.
Following a lunch break, another accuser took the stand.
In March of 2014, she claimed she was walking in northeast OKC, when she was approached by Holtzclaw.
She explained to the jury, she exposed her beasts after Holtzclaw repeatedly asked if she ‘had anything on her’, while pointing at her chest.
But the defense later played a tape of the woman’s interview with a lead detective. In the interview, the woman initially said no officer had ever been inappropriate with her, and that she had never ‘exposed herself’ to an officer.
As defense attorney Scott Adams pointed out, she only brought up the alleged assault after the detective told her of their investigation into Holtzclaw.
Witness testimony will continue Tuesday morning.
